Component compatibility across the range

Reducing the cost of ownership.

Super Duty engineering, common to every tool

Single-piece mandrel body

No weak link in the BHA. High tensile and yield strength, made to the latest edition of API 7.1. No service connections to minimise failure risk.

Free-rotating centralisation

Free-rotating centralisers eliminate casing and tool wear while optimising the fluid flow path for improved hole cleaning.

High-speed rotation

Designed to withstand high-speed rotation without failure during extended wellbore clean-up operations.

Enclosed design

No external bolts or parts come off during operation. Enclosed design reduces the risk of failures and fishing.

Interchangeable parts

The Ulti™ range features many shared parts, which helps reduce the overall cost of ownership.

Hand-tool assembly

Drastically reduces service costs and workshop time.

Split-flow circulation

UltiFlowMax™

Up to 100%

boost in annular velocity, with optimum flow maintained to the bit.

When open, UltiFlowMax™ allows surface flow rates to be increased while the BHA continues to receive its optimum rate, with the additional volume diverted to the annulus for more effective hole cleaning. The tool closes as soon as the pumps stop, allowing bottom-hole pressure to be read and the well to be killed at a slow circulating rate.

Plasma Pipe Cutters & Perforators

Thermite-powered downhole tools, usually run on wireline, that sever stuck pipe cleanly. Non-explosive and shipped as a flammable solid, they cut coiled tubing, tubing, casing and drill pipe with no flare and minimal debris left in the wellbore.

The technology

How a plasma cutter works

  1. 01

    Run to depth

The cutter is run to depth on wireline, sized to the pipe being cut.

  2. 02

    Thermal ignition

The thermite undergoes a vigorous exothermic redox reaction, generating intense heat.

  3. 03

    Clean cut

The heat is expelled through the tool’s orifices to sever the pipe.

Used in drilling, completions and workovers, and plug & abandonment — to recover pipe held by a stuck packer, debris or junk in the wellbore, casing collapse, mud, cement or sand accumulation, or differential sticking.

FAQ

Questions about our oilfield tools

Can’t find what you need? Our engineers will answer technical questions on sizing, ratings and operations.

Ask an engineer
What is a plasma pipe cutter?

A plasma pipe cutter is a thermite-powered downhole tool, usually run on wireline, that severs stuck pipe in the wellbore. Once ignited, the thermite undergoes an exothermic reaction that generates intense heat, which is expelled through the tool’s orifices to cut the pipe cleanly, with no flare and minimal debris.

Are your plasma cutters classed as explosives?

No. They are shipped as a flammable solid (DOT and IATA Class 4.1, UN 3178), not as an explosive, and may be carried on passenger and cargo aircraft. There are no licensing fees.

What pipe sizes can the plasma cutters cut?

Tools from 7/8″ to 3½″ OD cut coiled tubing, tubing, casing and drill pipe from 1½″ up to 5½″, with ratings up to 15,000 psi and 400 °F. Undersized tools are available for tight restrictions.

What does the Ulti™ wellbore clean-up range include?

Super-duty downhole tools for scraping, brushing, magnetic recovery, debris collection, circulation, jetting and fishing, from 4-1/2″ to 20″ casing. The range includes the UltiBlade™ casing scraper, UltiBrush™ casing brush, UltiMag™ string magnets, UltiBoot™ junk basket, UltiClean™ debris filter and UltiFlowMax™ split-flow circulation sub.

Do you rent drill pipe and downhole tools?

Yes. We rent fully inspected drill pipe, HWDP and pup joints, drill collars, crossovers and valves, jar and shock tools, steel and non-mag stabilizers, roller reamers, hole openers and hole-conditioning reamers, ready for rapid mobilisation.

Do your tools come with data sheets and inspection records?

Yes. Every tool is serialised and supplied with its own data sheet, inspection report and certificate of conformity, together with service manuals for assembly and redress.
